Knowledge Base
PO 1. Students will demonstrate foundational knowledge in major core subfields of psychological and brain sciences, such as biological, cognitive, developmental, and social psychology.
Scientific Reasoning + Inquiry
PO 2. Students will use academic sources to evaluate theories and all aspects of new or existing research to create new psychological questions/hypotheses, design original research, and analyze applied problems in individual, clinical, and social contexts.
PO 3. Students will find, comprehend, critically evaluate, and synthesize across multiple types of credible academic sources within the field of psychology.
Critical Thinking
PO 4. Students will develop a scientific, skeptical approach to claims about human behavior and neuroscience made by scientists, practitioners, and media sources. Students will demonstrate their understanding that the psychological sciences are evolving and that research claims are tentative to evaluate and advocate an argument about brain and behavior.
Diversity/Social Responsibility in a Diverse World
PO 5. Students will recognize and evaluate how cultural, societal, and environmental differences may influence how people think and behave.
PO 6. Students will recognize and evaluate the complexity of human diversity, helping them to become responsible and respectful citizens in an increasingly diverse society.
Ethical Reasoning
PO 7. Students will demonstrate an awareness and practice of ethical standards when evaluating, conducting, and applying psychological science.
Professional Skills and Development
PO 8. Students will demonstrate professionalism through their interpersonal skills, including empathy, sensitivity to diversity, collaboration, and effective communication, as they develop self-awareness about their strengths and areas of challenge.
